Il nucleo principale della band è nato quando Josh Hager e Tom Chapman si sono incontrati a Boston, Massachusetts. Josh è il fondatore dei THE RENTALS e attualmente suona chitarra e tastiere nei DEVO. Tom è il bassista dei BAD LIEUTENANT che ha seguito Bernard Sumner dei NEW ORDER nel 2011 quando la band si è riunita per una serie di concerti. Completano il gruppo Phil Cunningham fondatore e chitarrista dei NEW ORDER e il batterista Jeff Friedl, che suona nei DEVO.
L'album di debutto "Shadowparty", registrato a Boston, LA, Manchester, Macclesfield, e uscito su Mute Records, è un album che si discosta da quei gruppi ma ha una sua personale esistenza, un album synth- pop con chitarre e archi, con guest d'eccezione come Denise Johnson (PRIMAL SCREAM, A CERTAIN RATIO) e il chitarrista dei VERVE Nick McCabe.
È il suono di un'esplosione. ShadowParty irrompe attraverso l'impianto; l'elettronica pulsante viene spazzata via da morbide orchestrazioni, battiti audaci scolpiti da chitarre ossessionanti e voci che si susseguono in ogni momento, sussurrando dolci armonie e una tacita disperazione.
