Gli Hotline TNT, la band newyorkese guidata da Will Anderson, condividono un nuovo singolo/video, "Candle", tratto dal loro attesissimo nuovo album Raspberry Moon, in uscita il 20 giugno per Third Man Records. Dopo il singolo "Julia's War" (definita da Stereogum come una "jam power-pop annebbiata, muscolosa e orecchiabile"), "Candle" vibra di percussioni a cascata e chitarre rumorose. Anderson non ha mai scritto una canzone d'amore così reale e sincera come "Candle", una meravigliosa confessione verave sul tuffarsi in quel vuoto beato dove le farfalle ti attraversano tutto il corpo. Riconosce il suo passato e poi se ne allontana, spinto da una band che sembra desiderosa di fargli trovare qualcosa di appagante: "They don't hold a candle to you/Nothing more than I can prove", canta, abbandonando il controllo della logica e cedendo a qualsiasi cosa possa accadere. Il video di accompagnamento è un filmato live tratto dal loro recente tour in Giappone.
Questa canzone è stata la prima cosa che abbiamo scritto per Raspberry Moon: usciva dalle nostre chitarre con grande naturalezza e ci è voluto a malapena l'1% della nostra potenza per mettere le parti nell'ordine corretto. Per essere sicuri che fosse all'altezza delle nostre aspettative, l'abbiamo portata in Giappone e questo video documenta la reazione a quell'esperimento. La candela è accesa.
